Each smart city to constitute a joint committee of small traders: Union Minister Puri New Delhi, Feb 14 (KNN) Union Minister For Urban Development & Petroleum and Gas, Hardeep Puri has assured that each smart city will have a joint committee of small traders to protect them from law violations as suggested by Confederation of All India Traders ( CAIT).

He said this while addressing a conference organised by CAIT on “ Vyapari Samvad” in Ludhiana.

“The process of rationalisation & simplification of GST tax structure has already began but being a federal subject, the traders should also put their focus on State Governments to draw regulatory decisions in GST Council to make it a more simpler Act for which the Union Government is committed,” he added.

He called upon the trading community of the country to upgrade and modernise their existing format of trade to meet domestic and global challenges and secure a substantial share in global trade.

“The traders are the carriers of growth engine of the economy and as such deserve all sorts of support from the Government in the larger interest of the Country,” the Minister said.

CAIT has begun a national campaign of Vyapari Samvad from 1st to 28th February, 2022 across the country and conferences held at Ludhiana and Jullundur were the part of series of such campaign.

Beside CAIT National Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal, CAIT Punjab Chairman Pyare Lal Seth, Punjab President Harkesh Mittal, Punjab Secretary Sameer Jain and large number of traders and Industrialists were present at the conference.

Union Minister Puri also highlighted the complications in GST and said that it needs to be addressed immediately.

Further he said the Central Government is always open for the dialogues and for a robust trade growth cost of logistics needs to be curtailed.

“Industry and agriculture are parents of trade and as such whatever development is made on both these sectors and infrastructure, the ultimate beneficiary is trade because it holds the supply chain of the country and no one can negate the important role of traders in carrying the supply chain to the end consumer.” He stated.
