Hockey has changed his life for the good, believes Nilakanta Sharma who has been a regular feature in the Hockey India national program. First, it was his stint with the junior India team in 2014 when he was part of the team that lifted the Sultan of Johor Cup, beating Great Britain in the Final. Having proved his mettle in the Junior ranks, with his exceptional skills as a midfielder in the squad that was crowned Junior World Champions in 2016, Nilakanta was called up to represent the senior team in 2017. Since then, there has been no looking back for the hardworking player from Manipur as he has gone on to cement his place in India’s midfield and has been a trusted lieutenant for skipper Manpreet Singh in the midfield.“I have been quite fortunate in my career so far and I will continue to work hard, and execute my role in the team as expected of me.
