Hughes to roll out innovative network solutions for enterprises, consumers #IndiaNEWS #Business
Hyderabad: Hughes Communications India, an enterprise managed services company driven by VSAT technology, is going to focus on next-gen network, innovation in SD-WAN (software-defined wide area network), next-gen technologies in broadband, and high-throughput satellites. The company is looking at a series of technologies to serve enterprises, MSMEs and consumers.
The company makes SD-WAN products, quickly deployable antennas for communication needs to assist National Disaster Response Force during disasters, products for Indian army and navy, remote terminals, and e-learning for schools in rural or far-reaching areas to enable virtual learning. The products are manufactured through contract manufacturing arrangement with manufacturers in Manesar and Pune besides other selections.
Hughes also has a major hub in Hyderabad from where it runs multiple networks for Andhra Bank, ITC, and tribal schools to cover Telangana’s needs. The company also has customer service centres in the city.
Shivaji Chatterjee, SVP and Business head, Enterprise division, HCIPL, told Telangana Today, in an exclusive interview, “We have clocked Rs 500 crore in the network business, with 80 per cent revenues coming from services. We completed integration with the Airtel VSAT business in January. We are now a joint venture between Hughes US and Bharti Airtel with a 2/3rd-1/3rd venture, respectively.
Core user base
The company was the first to introduce VSAT services for enterprises in India in 1995. Today, there are 2,00,000 VSATs that the company services and 25,000 terrestrial circuits it services. Sectors such as retail, banks, ATMs, school networks and oil retail are some of the major users. VSAT services are also being used in the entertainment industry for multicasting movies in theatres. Exhibition business is a key sector.
He further added, “The company provides network services for the Indian army and navy. There are a lot of strategic users. Through BharatNet, villages are networked with satellites, wherever fibre is not there. Among sectors, banking- regional and rural regional banks is the largest sector for Hughes.
Space ecosystem
He said, recent space policy reforms have raised hopes, recognising the importance of space technologies and the role of the private sector. Chatterjee added, “The new policy framework will open the market to buyers and sellers. The advent of lower earth constellations has addressed latency challenges that the enterprises faced. The future will bring a lot of opportunities in this sector. We can double the revenues, capacity, and size of the market in the next 5-10 years, compared to what was achieved over the last 2-3 decades.
