Century old collection wins hearts at Lamakaan #IndiaNEWS #News
Hyderabad: The avenue of Lamakaan was filled with people sharing their nostalgic stories of articles of the yesteryears during an exhibition of the century old handlooms and handicrafts – some of which are in the verge of extinction.
The exhibition called Leela is an initiative to sustain these antique collections, shares Ramesh Ramanadham, the organiser of the exhibition, who also holds an expertise in Handlooms and Handicrafts natural dyeing and natural fibres.
In the exhibition one could witness four centuries old Talapatra, Chirala dolls, stones that were used for colouring in the cave painting by primitive men, antic bells, metal wear and a wide variety of brass collection. Moreover, works of original Kalamkari which were once used as screens in temples centuries ago were also displayed at the exhibition.
The exhibition also displayed the original Venkatagiri Sarees samples, handwoven sarees from Chirala and authentic Khadi collection made out of native cotton from Konduru and many more.
“I have been showcasing the collection for past eight years. People from different parts of the city came to witness the collection,�? says Ramesh Ramanadham, who has also been educating youngsters about old traditions and values.
“These are my collection of the past 40 years. There is a lot of science and a sense of what our sisters did. They were aware about the benefits of the clothing and the utensils which they used back then,�? explains Ramesh.
“I would be happy if people used sustainable collections and handcrafts,�? shares the art enthusiast on a concluding note.
