Entrepreneurial activity rate increased by 14.4% in 2021: GEM New Delhi, Mar 16 (KNN) In 2021, the total entrepreneurial activity rate which stands for adults who fall in the age bracket of 18-64 who either started a new business or ran a new business increased to 14.4 per cent, as per the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM).

The GEM survey was led by the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad and informed by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in response to a question in Lok Sabha.

All the opportunities generated in 2021 due to reduction in covid-19 risk has extensively boosted the early-stage entrepreneurial activity for India, it said.

With regards to startups, India stands third in terms of start-up ecosystem in the world after the US and China with over 60,000 start-ups.

The Ministry also informed the Lok Sabha in a separate response about the various skill based intervention taken to counter covid such as customised crash course programme for COVID warriors (CCCP for CW), under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 3.0 (PMKVY 3.0), is a special healthcare programme to create a pool of trained/skilled COVID warriors.

Training is being imparted in six customized healthcare job roles namely basic care support, home care support, advanced care support, sample collection support, emergency care support and medical equipment support to the under CCCP for CW.

It has two components; fresh skilling (short term training) followed by three months on-the-job training (OJT) and seven days upskilling programme for trained candidates. (KNN Bureau)
