PM Modi highlights contribution of MSME sector, farmers in achieving 0 export target New Delhi, Mar 28 (KNN) In the latest episode of Mann Ki Baat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi credited the MSME sector, farmers, small entrepreneurs, weavers, artisans and their collective efforts in achieving the ambitious export target of USD 400 billion.

Explaining what the accomplishment means for the Indian market, he said, “There was a time that the figure of exports from India used to be USD 100 billion, at times USD 150 billion, sometimes even USD 200 billion.”

Today that figure has surpassed USD 400 billion, which signals that the demand for made in India items is increasing all over the world. Another meaning is that the supply chain of India is getting stronger by the day, he stated.

PM Modi spoke about the increase in export of leather products from Hailakandi in Assam, handloom products from Osmanabad, fruits and vegetables from Bijapur, black rice from Chandauli.

“The first consignment of millets grown in Himachal and Uttarakhand was exported to Denmark. Bainganapalli and Subarnarekha mangoes from Krishna and Chittoor districts of Andhra Pradesh were exported to South Korea. Fresh jackfruits from Tripura were exported to London by air and for the first time King Chilli from Nagaland was dispatched to London.’’ said Modi.

Talking about the GeM portal, he emphasised on the major partnership role played by small entrepreneurs through the government portal.

The government had purchased items worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore through GeM during the past year, he added.  (KNN Bureau)
