Warangal: The Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) authorities are all set for modernisation of 34 government schools under the municipal corporation limits soon. With the historic Warnagal city chosen for the development under the Centre sponsored Smart City Mission (SCM), the civic body has earmarked Rs nine crore for the refurbish of the school buildings and to provide additional equipment at the schools.
“As part of the renovation of the schools, we are going to repair the class rooms, and take up painting of the classrooms, new black and green boards, dual desks, fans, lighting, water purifiers, lab equipment, book racks, kitchen sheds, doors, windows, compound walls and other basic amenities. Meanwhile, digital classrooms will also be set up in these schools to provide quality education for the disadvantaged sections on par with the corporate schools, Corporation Superintending Engineer Satyanarayana told ‘Telangana Today’.
“Tenders have already been finalised, and the commencement of the renovation works will be taken up soon, the SE said. On the other hand, playgrounds and open gyms will also be developed at these selected schools, he said. Several government high schools in the city are competing with the private and corporate schools in providing quality education. Some of them have more than 500 students.
“Renovation of government schools is the need of the hour. It is a good decision by the GWMC. Students from poor financial backgrounds will also enjoy the facilities on par with the corporate schools, said
Founder President of Society for Public Initiative and Welfare Dr Suresh Devath. He also urged the people to come forward to join their wards in the government schools. The GWMC officials have claimed that they would complete the renovation works by the beginning of the next academic year.
