The flood situation in Assam remains grim. But amid tales of sorrow, we have been seeing valiant efforts of the Assam Rifles. One of their rescue efforts is the evacuation of a mother and her six-day-old son.
According to a report in EastMojo, the Srikona Battalion of Assam Rifles, under the aegis of HQ 21 Sector Assam Rifles & IGAR (East), received an SOS call about a stranded family with a six-day-old baby.
The cries of the newborn from a house in Silchar, which was marooned due to the floods, alerted the rescue team of Assam Rifles. On 26 June, Captain Kunal and his team, along with Engineer Spear Corps, went to the house and evacuated the mother and baby.

News18 reported that the baby was born on 20 June, the day when water from the Barak River gushed through the embankment that had breached at Bethukandi, more than 3 km from the town.
Thanks to the efforts of the men in uniform, the family was rescued.
A video tweeted by ANI of the family thanking Army officials has gone viral. “Thanks to [Commandant] Kunal Sir and the entire team. They helped us a lot. My baby was born on 20 June. Sir and his team helped us escape from the floods. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. We would be in a lot of trouble if they would not have come. We thank the entire battalion, says the mother in the video.

As the baby’s mother said, “I pray to Allah to bless these Army men, and all of us stuck in the floods.
