Durgam Cheruvu gets new addition of yachting facility  #IndiaNEWS #Hyderabad
Hyderabad: Go sailing, kayaking, or even windsurfing in the heart of a happening IT corridor at Durgam Cheruvu in the city.
Scaling up the amenities at the water body, a Water School has been opened which among a host of water sports will impart training in sailing, kayaking, windsurfing, and stand-up paddleboarding. The school at the lake was inaugurated by Urban Development Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar here on Sunday.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) which set up the facility plans to tap into the expertise of the Yacht Club of Hyderabad to train medal winners here. It will serve as a nursery for future Asian and Olympic champions while serving as a hub for all water sports, the HMDA said.
Apart from those looking to make water sports a career, the MA&UD officials look at catering to the needs of those seeking recreational activities in the city.

The Water School also plans to run water-based Corporate Leadership, Team Building, and Bonding programme and revive the popular Kayakathan and Hydrathon events besides launching Life-Saving Certification programme in coming days. Olympic Class Laser can be learned here and International 420 Boats will be positioned at Water School. The skills learned here will be valuable at any water body across the world, the HMDA said in a press release.
MA&UD officials also plan to provide free coaching to underprivileged children. In addition to providing free training for the underprivileged, we will encourage school children to learn the water sports, said an official from the HMDA.
Meanwhile, the Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL), a wing of the HMDA, has also proposed the installation of two floating musical foundations on either side of the Durgam Cheruvu Cable Stay Bridge at a cost of Rs 8.03 crore. The size of each proposed fountain is 40 mx10m. “The plan is to organise shows in the evenings. Around three shows will be organised during weekdays and more on weekends and on public holidays, said an official from the HMDA.
The HGCL has already invited tenders for the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of two musical floating fountains on either side of the cable bridge.
