Hyderabad: The City police have arrested four persons in connection with the fire mishap at Ruby Pride Hotel and Ruby Electrical Scooters on Monday night, in which eight persons lost their lives and 11 others were injured.
The arrested persons were Ranjeet Singh, 60, and Suneet Singh, 34, owners of Ruby Pride Hotel, Naridla Sudarshan Naidu, 39, manager of the hotel, and Jaspal Singh Gulati, 59, a cashier with Ruby Electric Scooters. Supreet Singh, owner of Gemopai Electric Motors, was absconding.
“There is prima facie evidence that the arrested persons have flouted safety norms by setting up the business of e-bikes and charging of batteries which led to the incident. Absence of all required permissions for the hotel building and e-bike showroom and misuse of the parking place are also major lapses that led to the incident, DCP (North) Chandana Deepti said.
Ranjeet Singh, along with his two sons Suneet Singh and Sunpreet Singh, was running the hotel, e-bikes showroom and a two-wheeler finance business in the building.
“The premises was equipped with 32 channel DVR CCTV cameras, of which 25 cameras were functioning and the incident was recorded. It appears that the smoke first emerged from an e-bike kept for charging. However, reports from the Fire department, electricity department and Forensic Science Laboratory are awaited to determine the exact cause of fire, the DCP said.
Meanwhile, City Police Commissioner CV Anand rewarded the policemen and civilians who were instrumental in saving lives during the mishap. The officials rewarded were N Sudhir (ACP Gopalapuram), B Ramesh (ACP Mahankali), Y Nageshwar Rao (Inspector Market PS), E Shekar (DI Market PS), Anjaneyulu (DI Tukaramgate), Ande Rakesh (Constable), G Ramesh Naidu (SI Market PS), S Kanakaiah (SI Market PS) and R Siddulu (SI Market).
