MCC plans to set up exclusive shelter home for destitute women #IndiaNEWS #News
Mysore/Mysuru: With the number of destitutes and the shelterless in the city rising, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has planned to set up an exclusive shelter home for such women.



MCC Additional Commissioner M.J. Roopa said that the Civic Body is planning to set up an exclusive women shelter home in the city just the like the one for men located on Seshadri Iyer Road in city. 



A proposal has been sent in this regard to the Department of Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and  Livelihood, which in turn has given oral consent, she said.



Pointing out that the MCC had earlier set up a shelter home for destitute women near D. Devaraj Urs Road, Roopa said that the Home was winded up as the building got dilapidated and also due to the dwindling number of women. But now as the number of shelterless and destitute women is rising by the day, the MCC has identified  buildings belonging to it at two or three places for setting up the shelter home, she said.



Noting that shelterless woman who work during the day, can stay at the shelter home during the night, she said that the new Home will have all the necessary infrastructure and security. 



Stating  that the shelter home will be maintained  by an NGO under the watch of the MCC, the MCC Additional Commissioner said that the shelter home will have skill training classes and other vocational classes in order to enable women to lead an self-reliant life. She further said that the inmates can avail various benefits under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).



Citing a High Court order, which said that the State should have a shelter home for a population of one lakh, she said that according to the HC order, Mysuru needs to have over half a dozen such homes. 



Contending that the MCC is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of women who take shelter at Railway Station, bus stands, shopping complexes, K.R. Hospital premises and such other public places, Roopa said that the MCC will carry out a survey of such women twice a month and take measures to accommodate them in the all-women shelter home that is proposed to come up.
