As a means to boost tourism in the state, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said it was important for the government and private sector to work together to help bring about improvement in the tourism industry.
Speaking at the launch of the Fairfield by Marriott hotel in Benaulim, Sawant said the state needs more in terms of the hospitality and entertainment industry. “Goa is well known for tourism. The hospitality sector has been one of the majorly hit industries due to Covid. However, many entrepreneurs have held on to ethics by not retrenching their staff during the pandemic which I appreciate and thank as it has helped support the state government. Government and private sectors have to work together to boost tourism. As far as infrastructure we can help but to attract the tourists the private and PPP models are required, said Sawant.
Supporting the cause and adding to the efforts of the state government, tourism minister Manohar ‘Babu’ Azgaonkar said, “Compared to North Goa, South Goa was lagging behind in terms of tourism. We have taken steps in addressing garbage on beaches, miscreants drinking and breaking bottles on the beach and tourists engaging in roadside cooking. In the past shack owners would complain of getting their licences late, we have started giving it on time now. We have even managed to clamp down on unregistered hotels and increase the tourists’ arrival in the state to 1. 25 crore, he said.
Welcoming the hotel in his constituency, Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao also praised the efforts saying it would help to bring employment to the state. Also present for the inauguration were Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha and Dempo group chairman Shrinivas Dempo.
V M Salgaocar Corporation Pvt Ltd on Tuesday inaugurated its brand-new hospitality venture Fairfield by Marriott Goa Benaulim, as part of Marriott Bonvoy’s portfolio of 30 extraordinary brands, marking the brand’s second opening in the state.
V M Salgaocar Corporation chairman Dattaraj V Salgaocar, said “Fairfield by Marriott Goa shows our commitment to the state of Goa and in further developing the tourism sector in the State. The strategic location of Fairfield by Marriott Benaulim in South Goa will offer ultimate tranquillity and convenience for accessing Goa’s many attractions. We look forward to partnering with Marriotts and providing our valuable guests with unmatched comfort and hospitality that comes with staying at Fairfield by Marriott Goa Benaulim.
