Post the opening up of tourism in state, Ralph De Sousa, president, GCCI on Thursday, called for tourism stakeholders to take utmost care and strict compliance of COVID protocols to avoidinfection.
“It is the responsibility of the stakeholders to ensure that all precautions are taken to avoid any infection as negligence on their part would lead to the shutdown of the tourism industry for atleast another year, said the GCCI president.
He urged hotels and tour operators to duly vaccinate staff to ensure the safety of residents as well as the visitors.
“Lapses in protocols will lead to surge in new cases and government will have no option but to stop inflow of the tourists leading to failure of the oncoming tourist season. Double vaccine certificate or negative RTPCR test needs to be verified. If this is strictly followed Goan tourism industry will be back on track and ensure rise in economic growth which was lost last year, said De Sousa.
GCCI had been campaigning for permission for international charter tourists to resume in the state. The industry body had led a delegation of charter representatives to meet Chief Minister, Pramod Sawant and government officials requesting his help to take up the matter with the center for resumption of charter flights.
GCCI has welcomed Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s announcement to allow foreign charters to the state.
The trade representative body said that, it is also thankful to the efforts of the state government and the dedicated medical fraternity along with their frontline health-workers who put their lives at risk to ensure that almost the entire state is vaccinated.
“This has given a boost to our campaign to open international flights to Goa, said De Sousa.
