World Sight Day observed today



Panaji: World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October, is a global event meant to draw attention on blindness and vision impairment. It was originally initiated by the SightFirstCampaign of Lions Club International Foundation in 2000. This year, World Sight Day is observed on October 14, 2021 with the theme: Love Your Eyes. #LoveYourEyes is all about being aware of your own eye health and if you are able to, get a sight test or recommend others do the same. Globally, at least 1 billion people have near or distance vision impairment that could be prevented or has yet to be addressed. Vision impairment affects people of all ages, with the majority being over the age of 50. Vision impairment and blindness can have major and long-lasting effects on all aspects of life, including daily personal activities, interacting with the community, school and work opportunities and the ability to access public services. Unoperated cataract and uncorrected refractive error are the leading causes of vision impairment. Other causes includes age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, infectious diseases of the eye, and trauma.



Goa Shopping Festival underway at Ponda



Panaji: Consumer Shopping Festival Exhibition is underway at Municipal Ground opposite District Library, Ponda. For the first time around 300 sq ft is displayed on imported artificial flowers. Office furniture, home furniture and handicrafts, SS Furniture, imported sofa sets, kitchenware, Sikha home products, Prestige, Solar Lights, Panasonic TVs, Fridge, Powermax Fitness Equipments and many more.  The exhibition is open for the public till October 18 from 10.30 am to 9 pm.
