Bhima Koregaon: Bombay HC asks NIA to respond to Anand Teltumbde’s bail plea in two weeks #IndiaNEWS
The Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted two weeks’ time to the National Investigation Agency to file a reply to a bail plea moved by activist Anand Teltumbde, an accused in the Bhima Koregaon case, reported Live Law.The case pertains to caste violence in a village near Pune in 2018. Teltumbde was among the people arrested for allegedly plotting the violence. One person was killed and several others were injured in the incident.Teltumbde has filed two petitions before the High Court. The first appeal is against a special court’s order rejecting his bail application.The second one is a plea challenging the constitutional validity of certain provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and a part of the schedule of the National Investigation Agency Act which deals with the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist). Teltumbde has challenged the part of the Act which extends the ban to “and all its [CPI (Maoist)] formations and front organisations�?.On Wednesday, senior counsel Mihir Desai, representing Teltumbde, said the second petition was filed considering the problem the sections of the UAPA have created for his client’s bail.
