Hyderabad: Hyderabad golfer Sneha Singh is going places. She added another feather in her cap when she won the selection trials for the prestigious Queen Sirikit Cup golf tournament, scheduled to be held in Singapore from May 23, and made it to the three-member Indian team.
The 17-year-old youngster finished at the top after five days’ of trials. “I am very happy that I am getting to represent India once again. I represented India in the Women’s Asia Pacific amateur tournament in Abu Dhabi last year but missed the cut by two shots. I will work as hard as I can and do my best for the country in this event, she said.
This year is crucial for her with the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games lined up. She will next compete in selection trials for Asian Games. The trials will be held in Bengaluru in two weeks.
“Hardwork is everything. I will work hard and improve my game. My dream is to play Olympics in 2024 and Asian Games. We also have Asian Games next. Qualifying for these games is my goal right now. I will work hard and give my best to realise my dream, said the BA second year student of St Ann’s Women’s College.
Sneha is in red-hot form recently where she scripted history by clinching her fourth professional title in Visakhapatnam during the second leg of the Hero Women’s Pro League tour. She also bagged a hat-trick of amateur titles in the first leg in Hyderabad, second leg in Visakhapatnam and third leg in Mumbai. She also finished third overall in Hyderabad and second in Mumbai.
However, she failed to get the slot for the next legs. “It was sad that I could not get the slots for the next legs. I was playing well. But there are only six slots for the amateurs and they got filled fast, she lamented.
Sanjay, Sneha’s father and coach, said that she dreams of winning a medal for the country in the Olympics. “She wanted to represent the country and that is why she hasnt turned pro yet. She will next go for Asian Games trials in Bengaluru. She is working hard towards her dream of playing for India in the Paris Olympics, revealed Sanjay who himself is a Class A golf professional.
